Jan Gets a 10% Boost in Foreign Tourist Traffic – What a Fab Way to Kick Off the Year!

A total of 1.52 million overnight stays were recorded at accommodation establishments in Finland in January 2024 according to Statistics Finland.

The number of nights spent by resident tourists was 0.93 million and that of nights spent by non-resident tourists 0.59 million. The total number of overnight stays was almost on level with the year before.

The number of overnight stays by resident tourists decreased by six per cent and that of overnight stays by non-resident tourists grew by 10 per cent in January from the previous year.

In Lapland, the number of nights spent by resident tourists was nearly one fifth lower and that of nights spent by non-resident tourists 13 per cent higher than in the previous year.

The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from France, Great Britain and Germany.

The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 45 per cent, which is on level with January 2023.

The average price of a hotel room was EUR 127, having been EUR 121 one year earlier.

The average price of a hotel room was highest in Lapland, EUR 202.
