Finnish Pavilion will present exhibition at Venice Art Biennale

The Finnish Pavilion will present an exhibition titled ‘The pleasures we choose’ at the 60th International Venice Art Biennale, said the Ministry of Education and Culture in a press release on Friday.

The working group behind the exhibition consists of artists Pia Lindman, Vidha Saumya and Jenni-Juulia Wallinheimo-Heimonen, curators Yvonne Billimore and Jussi Koitela, and architectural designer Kaisa Sööt.

Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala will travel to Italy to attend the opening of the Finnish exhibition on April 17.

“Finnish artists have taken part in the Venice Biennale since its inception over 120 years ago. The importance of the Venice Biennale on European contemporary art and on Finnish artists and art professionals cannot be underestimated. In these times when there are so many serious conflicts in the world, arts and culture, along with international cooperation and exchange of ideas, play an increasingly important role,” said Multala.

Multala will also attend the opening of the exhibition at the Nordic Pavilion. This year, Sweden is responsible for the Nordic Pavilion exhibition, titled ‘The Altersea Opera’, and the artists behind the exhibition are Lap-See Lam, Kholod Hawash and Tze Yeung Ho.

The Venice Biennale is the oldest contemporary art biennale in the world. It is held every two years and it brings together exhibitions from a number of different countries to the Giardini della Biennale park.

The exhibition at the Finnish Pavilion was commissioned and produced by Frame Contemporary Art Finland.

The Biennale will remain open to the people between April 20 and November 24.
