13 killed in road mishaps in May

A total of 13 persons were killed and 345 others injured in 294 road accidents in May in Finland, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of fatalities was three higher and number of persons injured 44 higher than the numbers in May 2023.

Out of the deceased, four travelled by passenger car, one by moped and four by motorcycle in May 2024.

One pedestrian and three other road users were also killed.

Among those who died, 11 were men and two women.

A total 60 persons were killed and 1,086 others injured in 886 road traffic accidents in the country in January-May period.

The number of deaths was eight higher and number of persons injured 95 lower than the numbers in the corresponding period of 2023.

Of the persons who were killed, 32 travelled by passenger car, three by van, two by moped, four by motorcycle and one by lorry.

Pedestrians killed numbered nine and cyclists two. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
