250 to lose jobs as Posti starts negotiation talks

National postal and logistic services operator Posti has taken an initiative to cut up to 250 jobs, said Posti in a press release on Monday.

Posti started negotiations with the employees working for delivery of unaddressed advertisements and free distribution papers, and to the operations of Tampere postal center.

Posti plans to remove mass delivery of advertisements and unaddressed mass mailings, such as papers free of charge to mail recipients, from its service offering from the beginning of 2025.

The plans do not concern the addressed letter, marketing or newspaper services offered nationwide to households and businesses.

In addition, Posti is planning to reorganize its postal center in Perkkoonkatu, Tampere. The workload of the center will be affected by plans to invest in new sorting machines that improve mail handling efficiency and by the plan to centralize mail handling in Helsinki.

Both changes will have an impact on personnel, and Posti invited personnel representatives to change negotiations.

According to a preliminary estimate, these changes are expected to reduce a maximum of 130 employees working for delivery of unaddressed advertisements and free distribution papers and maximum 120 employees working at Tampere postal center.

Posti employs around 15 000 people in Finland.

Hey Emily_1987, it’s likely that job cuts at Posti could impact service quality over time. With fewer employees handling delivery and operations, there may be delays or possible service disruptions. Let’s hope Posti finds a balance to maintain efficiency and quality amidst these changes.
