Nurse accused of breaching data of 170 Helsinki residents

A nurse of psychiatric services was accused of breaching data of about 170 Helsinki residents in the Apotti client and patient information system without having a justified reason, said the City of Helsinki in a press release on Tuesday.

The Social Services, Health Care and Rescue Services Division of the City of Helsinki detected in the spring of 2024 that the incident of data breach took place at the end of 2021.

The nurse responsible for the data breach, however, did not access clients’ health information. Instead, the nurse saw the basic information including the names, personal identity codes, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of the residents in the Apotti system following a client search.

An investigation into the incident was launched as soon as the data breach was discovered.

The matter has been handled in accordance with the data breach process of the City of Helsinki.

The nurse is no longer employed by the City of Helsinki.

The City of Helsinki has reported the data breach to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.

The City authority also notified the clients affected of the data breach.
