Industrial turnover drops by 7.6% in April

Working day adjusted turnover in industry (TOL BCD) decreased by 7.6 per cent in April 2024 from April 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

Turnover decreased most in the chemical industry.

Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry increased by 3.4 per cent in April from the month before.

Turnover went down in April 2024 in several main industries. Turnover in the chemical industry decreased most, being 15.3 per cent lower than one year earlier.

Turnover in the forest industry went down by 9.0 per cent and in the metal industry by 6.2 per cent from one year ago.

Turnover grew in mining and quarrying (2.5%) and in the food industry (0.6%).

Export turnover fell in several main industries in April 2024. Compared to the year before, export turnover decreased most in the chemical industry, where turnover was 16.2 per cent lower than one year earlier.

Export turnover decreased by 10.9 per cent in the forest industry and by 1.1 per cent in the metal industry from one year ago.

Export turnover in the food industry grew by 18.0 per cent. Export turnover remained close to the level one year ago in the textile industry.

Domestic turnover decreased in nearly all main industries in April. Domestic turnover decreased most in the chemical industry (minus 14.9%) and in the textile industry (minus 11.5%).

Domestic turnover in the metal industry went down by 7.2 per cent and in the forest industry by 6.4 per cent from one year ago. Domestic turnover grew only in mining and quarrying, by 9.8 per cent from one year ago.

Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry increased by 3.4 per cent in April 2024 compared to March. In March, turnover fell by 5.6 per cent and in February by 1.9 per cent from the month before.
