Two climate protesters glued themselves to the tarmac next to a private jet parked at the airport on the German resort island of Sylt on Saturday, reported dpa.
The two women, from the group Last Generation, had also been planning to spray-paint the slogan "Oil kills" onto the aircraft, but they were prevented from doing so by airport staff, the group said.
The activists managed to breach the airport fence after cutting a hole into it. A third protester was arrested by police at the fence.
The two women have since been freed from the tarmac and been detained. Air traffic in Sylt was not impacted by the action, according to the flight schedule on the airport's website.
"Today's protest in Sylt didn't work out, that happens sometimes, but it doesn't mean that we will stop," Last Generation spokesman Christian Bergemann said.
Germany's North Sea island of Sylt is a haven for the rich and famous, which Last Generation considers to be particularly responsible for climate change due to their lavish lifestyles.
Five of the group activists sprayed a private jet parked at Sylt airport with orange paint in June last year. The action caused damages of at least €1 million, according to estimates by the regional public prosecutor's office in Flensburg.
