Student creates panic with axe at school in Uusikaupunki

A student created panic among the other students and staff of a school with an axe at Uusikaupunki, a municipality in South-west Finland on Friday morning, police said.

The incident took place at about 9:00 a.m. when the 15-year-old student equipped with the axe entered into the Välskäri school compound area and was moving around in a threatening manner.

The other students and staff took shelter inside the school building and locked the doors to avoid any possible attack.

Although none was injured in the incident, the student damaged the school building with the axe.

Responding to an alarm, police rushed to the spot but the student left the scene immediately.

The police, however, arrested the student from the nearby area within a short period.

The police are investigating into the incident to find out the motive of the student.

Members of the law enforcing agency will not disclose more information in this regard as the student is underage.
