Record number people get Finnish citizenship in 2023
Finnish citizenship was granted to 12,224 foreign citizens permanently resident in Finland in 2023, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of people received Finnish citizenship exceeded the previous record of 2017 and is the highest since the Independence of Finland.
A number of new Finnish citizens in 2023 was 2,026 or 20 percent higher compared to the number in 2022.
Finnish citizenships were granted most to Russian citizens, who were 16 per cent of the total number of the new Finnish citizens.
The number of dual citizens in Finland was 172,000 at the end of 2023.
