France to declare state of emergency in New Caledonia after riots

French President Emmanuel Macron has decided to declare a state of emergency in New Caledonia, where riots have left three people dead and seriously injured a gendarme, the Elysee said in a statement on Wednesday, reported Xinhua.

Macron reiterated the need for a resumption of political dialogue, and asked the prime minister and the minister of the interior and overseas to rapidly invite New Caledonian delegations to Paris, according to the statement, issued at the end of a national defense and security council meeting on the situation in New Caledonia.
