Majority of Finns disapprove Israeli attack in Gaza: survey

Majority of the people in Finland do not approve the Israeli military action in Gaza, according to a survey commissioned by the national broadcaster Yle.

The survey carried out by the research organization Taloustutkimus showed that 60 percent of the respondents did not approve the Israeli action, 21 percent approved the action while 19 percent said that they were not sure about their opinions in this regard.

The survey showed that the opinion of women and men significantly varied on the Israeli military action.

About 76 percent of women expressed disapproval of the war and the ratio was 43 percent among men.

The attitudes of people towards Israel's military actions were also different based on their political identities.

Majority of the respondents, who belong to the radical rightist Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) supported the Israeli attack while most of the supporters of Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance), Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) and the Vihreä liitto (Finnish Green League) opposed the attack.

The survey was conducted through interviewing 1,106 people and the margin of error is approximately ± 3.0 percentage points.

The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip from ongoing Israeli attacks has risen to 34,454, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said on Sunday.
