Colombia breaks diplomatic ties with Israeli over Gaza attack
Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Wednesday announced to break diplomatic ties with Israel over the Israeli attack on Gaza, reported Xinhua.
Petro said in a public speech in Bogota, "Tomorrow we will break diplomatic relations with the state of Israel … for having a government, for having a president who is genocidal."
Petro had criticized Israel's military operations in Gaza and requested to join South Africa's lawsuit at the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of genocide.
Israel's retaliatory attacks on Hamas-ruled Gaza have killed more than 34,500 people, mostly civilians, displaced most of Gaza's population of 2.3 million, and wrought hunger and devastation across the enclave.

As a concerned citizen, I fully support President Petro’s decision to break diplomatic ties with Israel. It is critical to speak out against acts of genocide and hold accountable those responsible for such atrocities.
I completely agree with President Petro’s decision to break diplomatic ties with Israel. It’s essential to take a strong stance against the violation of human rights and the use of excessive force. The international community must stand up against such atrocities and hold those responsible accountable.
Is breaking diplomatic ties the only way for Colombia to address the situation with Israel? What other options could they have pursued?
