Woman gunned down in Tampere, suspect held
A woman was killed when a miscreant attacked her with firearm at Tampere city centre late Thursday night, police said on Friday.
The incident took place at about 7:45 p.m. at Hämeenkatu area when a man fired several gunshots at the woman and left the scene.
The woman sustained severe bullet wounds at different parts of her body and later succumbed to her injuries.
A minor child was along with the woman at the time of attack, but the child remained unhurt, police said.
Although police in a press release on Thursday night told about the incident, they did not tell anything about the condition of the victim. Later police announced the death of the woman on Friday morning.
Police conducted extensive search at the locality and adjoining areas and arrested the suspected killer from Ylöjärvi area early Friday night at about 12:30 a.m.
Police said that the victim and the suspect were known to each other but did not divulge their identities and relationship.
A Finnish language daily Aamulehti published from Tampere said that the suspect had previous criminal record and recently was released from jail.
The police are investigating into the case as suspected murder, firearms crime and endangerment to public safety.
