President Alexander Stubb and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen appreciated the proposal laid out by United States, Egypt and Qatar for a ceasefire in Gaza and called on the parties of the conflict to conclude the agreement immediately .

“The people of Gaza, hostages, and their families all deserve an opportunity to have a peaceful, normal life. I call on the parties of the conflict to seize this opportunity and conclude the agreement without further delay,” Stubb wrote in a post in his social media platform X on Friday.

He pointed out that United States, Egypt and Qatar have laid out a proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.

“A ceasefire and the release of the hostages in Gaza are needed urgently. We greatly appreciate the tireless efforts of Qatar, Egypt and the U.S. to forge an agreement. Finland urges both sides to bridge the remaining gaps and complete the negotiations now,” Valtonen wrote in her post on X on Friday.

Earlier, leaders of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar issued a joint statement called on both sides to resume urgent discussion on August 15 in Doha or Cairo to close all remaining gaps and commence implementation of the deal without further delay.

The statement said that the leaders of the three countries have worked tirelessly over many months to forge a framework agreement that is now on the table with only the details of implementation left to conclude.

“There is no further time to waste nor excuses from any party for further delay. It is time to release the hostages, begin the ceasefire, and implement this agreement,” the joint statement said.
