Around 80 participants attended a one day workshop at the ARRC site on Thursday 18th May, taking some advantage of the visitors to Perth for this year’s APPEA meeting. The morning session reported on work by Shell and CSIRO, collaborators on the Federally funded CCS Research Development and Demonstration project, on advancing our understanding of potential storage sites in the Petrel Sub-Basin. The focus on this area is due to the high CO2 fields in the region that will potentially require storage in the future. For example, Evans Shoal field contains 28% CO2 and others have similar higher levels. The afternoon session included several well-known international experts who were visiting partly for this workshop, and included Sallie Greenberg of Illinois State Geological Survey talking on the Decatur Project and Owain Tucker of Shell, reporting on the Peterhead Project and Shell Quest Project in Scotland and Canada respectively. The day finished with a panel session and networking.
